Oh-so-sporty at sunny Porty!

August 23, 2012

The ‘Lass’ had a very fine day out on her weekend mini-break at sunny (and showery) Portobello!

The ‘Lass’ crews and supporters always enjoy the Portobello Skiff Regatta. Racing full-on  to the beach is such a blast for spectators and racers, also the cakes in the rowers tea tent are the very food of paradise – and the general hospitality and craic is just great.

Here’s an attractive eyeful on the beach…

And here’s another!

…the leader board – not Davy and Ali!…

…and the ‘Lass’ just kept on winning ! You might have thought that after having to write Achiltibuie so often they might have got the spelling right 🙂 And so the racing and fun went on throughout the day between the showers.

…until a very closely fought last race – the Mixed open- saw a hot North Berwick team just pipping ours.

We’ll be putting that one right at the North Berwick Skiff Regatta very soon!

There was time for a bit of socialising between races – first of all Angelina Jolie’s sister was snapped chatting with members of the ‘Coigach Lass’ crews and supporters?!

…and it’s never too young to start! Alison gives the wee lad a shot of the oars

…and our supporters wear their hearts on their front! The ‘Lass’ getting on to the start line…

…and the finish – oars going like a metronome..the men’s over 50s crew powering home – above.  Below-the over 234 years (ancients) race first home celebrations.

..and after all the racing – the medals!

Scroll your mouse over for who’s who below

The pints are going down well after one or two races!

Another photo to come. More gold medals than you could shake an oar at – cunningly crafted by the Portobello crew from Scottish native oyster shells picked up from a neighbouring beach – none of yer Pacific oyster interlopers here!

Thanks everyone at Porty and all the other crews we met – it was lots of fun!  For video interview with our race manager Mark – here he is below lovingly oiling up our wear points – go to the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association website.   It’s attention to detail like this – no thole-pin left un-oiled – that we appreciate Mark so much for! Fantastic dedication to winning! And why not!

Thanks to Iain Muir for all pics.
